Hello,
I’m Shanti Braford – welcome to my blog.
In mid-2008, I decided to start making music. Sure, I’d noodled around on my acoustic guitar since high-school. But I never really had the confidence to put myself out there.
Hastily, I threw up a MySpace page and started posting tracks recorded on an inexpensive $15 mic you get @ Office Max, using some free (or pirated, in some cases) recording software.
r.i.p. Elliott Smith, 1969 – 2003
My music has evolved since then – I straddle the line between crooning Elliott Smith-inspired, soul on your sleeve type of songs such as Water Tower, To Whom It May Concern, Diving Bells and Butterflies … all the way to the other end of the spectrum — party pop mashups like Iron Dirtbag (Wheatus vs. T.I. vs Iron Maiden vs T-Pain, etc)

Originally from St. Louis, currently I reside in Portland, OR.
Licensing & Distribution
All of my music is available online at MySpace, and can be freely downloaded (320kbps mp3s and CD-quality audio) at shantibraford.com.
To my knowledge, I am one of just a few musicians who has licensed their music under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 License. This is the least restrictive CC license, effectively putting my musical creations into the public domain.
Anyone can come along and use my music in a non-commercial, or even a for-profit setting (a movie, commercial, whatever). While you are not required to compensate me in anyway, you are, under the terms of the license, supposed to attribute the work to me.
Heck, you could burn a CD-R of my songs, go sell them down on the street corner and I wouldn’t give a shit! (actually, I would be quite pleased that someone liked it that much)
While I have plans to post my music to iTunes, Amazon, etc – this would simply be for the sake of convenience, and, to reach a wider audience.
Thank you for taking the time to check out my music!
- Shanti
